We got our first snow yesterday and the birch trees in my yard have lost most of their leaves. Today seems like a good day to remember what they looked like just a few short weeks ago.
The leaves on a birch tree are generally small, about 3″ long. They sometimes grow larger than the palm of my hand, though!
The golden yellow color is a striking contrast to the blue sky and is one of my favorite fall views.
Birch tree bark is rough and rather papery, it peels and splits as the elements wear at it over the windy, rainy fall season.
